Fire Department Memorial Building ............... 423-0062

Narragansett Ave., Jamestown Antique fire fighting equipment and a horse-drawn steam engine are on display. Open weekdays from 7-3.

 

Fort Barton Revolutionary War Monument

Highland Rd., Tiverton (across from Town Hall).  Climb the re-creation of the fort for a beautiful view of the Bay. Three miles of wooded trails for hiking. Open sunrise to sunset.

More than 80 sculptured trees and shrubs in the shape of animals and geometric forms, formal flowerbeds, fruit and vegetable gardens on this 7-acre historic country estate overlooking Narragansett Bay. Open 10-6 daily, May-mid-October.

500 Hope St., Bristol.  This 1810 Federal Mansion and grounds features colorful stories of famous people, including four US Presidents and actress Ethel Barrymore. It was the home of Colonel S.P. Colt, a millionaire industrialist.  The interior boasts a four-story, self-supporting spiral mahagony staircase and furnishings from its 200-year history. Call for hours and calendar of events.

Touro Synagogue ............... 847-4794

Touro is the oldest synagogue in the US.  A copy of President Washington’s famous letter to the congregation, on display, pledges that the new American nation would give “to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance.”  Daily tours every half hour (except on Sat. and Jewish holidays).  Call for hours.

Smith's Castle ............... 294-3521

55 Richard Smith Drive, N. Kingstown.  www.smithscastle.org National Register Historic Building and a National Historic Landmark Archeological site where colonists first arrived in the 1600's. We feature a garden containing flowers that would be typically found in a

colonial homestead for dying cloth, cooking and medicinal uses. We have a mass grave site marker from the 1675 King Phillips War. Our Gift Shop, featuring colonial style toys and gifts, is open during tour hours. Visitors are invited to bring a picnic lunch and wander our grounds along Narragansett Bay. Guided Tours, by costumed docents. Events include Strawberry Festival in June, a Harvest Fair in October and more.
